How is the construction IIPP different from the general IIPP?
The general IIPP (T8CCR §3203) is the universal CA mandate that applies to every employer. The construction-specific §1509 adds requirements: (1) A written Code of Safe Practices for construction work, prominently posted or distributed at the job; (2) Construction-specific hazard identification (trenching, electrical, fall, hot work, etc.); (3) Per-project hazard correction tracking. The template covers both §3203 and §1509.
What is the Code of Safe Practices?
Required by T8CCR §1509(a), the Code of Safe Practices is a written summary of safety rules specific to the construction work being performed. It must be prominently posted at each job site OR provided to each employee. The template includes the Code with the standard construction safety rules ready to customise for your work.
Do subcontractors need their own IIPP?
Yes. On multi-employer construction sites, each employer — GC and every subcontractor — needs its own IIPP. The GC's IIPP doesn't cover subcontractors. The template includes a coordination procedure for the GC to document that each sub has its own IIPP, but doesn't replace the sub's obligation to have one.
How does this coordinate with the SSSP?
Cal/OSHA inspectors typically ask for both the IIPP (company-wide program) and the SSSP (project-specific plan). The IIPP is the umbrella; the SSSP is the per-project application. The template cross-references the SSSP structure so the two plans align.
Is this enough for federal contractor projects in CA?
Federal projects in CA need both the federal Accident Prevention Plan (APP) under EM 385-1-1 AND the CA IIPP under T8CCR §3203. Neither replaces the other. The template addresses CA; for federal compliance use our separate APP template alongside this one.
