NC is a state-plan state. NC OSH operates in lieu of federal OSHA for state government and most private employers. SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) recognizes small employer (≤250 employees) safety achievement. Both provide insurance benefits and reputational advantage.
Is NC OSH stricter than federal OSHA?
NC OSH standards must be at least as effective as federal OSHA — some are equivalent, some are slightly more stringent.
